Marissa Farrow Photography

Hi, I’m Marissa, a freelance Event and Portrait photographer from Leicester

As a musician, I saw marketing as another step in a long journey to “making it”. The countless hours of writing songs, pondering over the words in your lyrics scrawled on the page, every droplet of sweat running down your face as you perform your heart out on stage, whether to two or two hundred people.

Every penny invested into the art just to glimpse a “Big Break”. For some important person to notice the hard graft you’ve poured in, give you a chance. Walking an ever tighter line of balancing the budget. Even the big bands that have “made it” must carefully consider whether having merchandise on the stalls or fresh content on their social media pages is more beneficial.

Fifteen per cent of professional photographers are female or female-presenting. This trickles down even further when including their retrospective niches. This isn’t limited to photographers, however. Finding another woman or female-presenting person on the artist roster was rare, even as a musician. Even more so, seeing a band or artist entirely of women.

I saw that affordable photography for all wasn’t available to most artists. High-quality photographs were just a dream for those starting out. So many bands I saw relied on the network of friends and acquaintances made to know that one person who took an interest in photography and was happy to take photos for them.

That is why Marissa Farrow Photography was born. It combines a musician’s knowledge with the passion for making it easier for new and upcoming artists to showcase their talents without breaking the bank.

“Never compromising passion”

This slogan not only resonates with who I am as a person but one that I hope will resonate with all creatively minded individuals. Even when the art block drives one to the brink of madness, the urge to create is an itch that powers the motor.

Creativity is like a flower. Nurture it, and it blooms — creation together.
